Suncoast Fenced Dog Park

Suncoast Fenced Dog Park is a fully fenced off-leash area on Tinderbox Road in Blackmans Bay, south of Hobart, with open grass, sea glimpses and a small agility corner. The fence is the reason to choose it: your dog can run properly off-lead without you watching for traffic or unknown dogs arriving at speed.

The rules

Fenced does not mean hands-off: dogs still need to be under effective control, and you should close the gate securely behind you both entering and leaving. Kingborough Council's dog management policy applies on site, so check the signage for any current restrictions before you let your dog go.

What's there

The park runs to open grass with some shade trees, an agility table and weaving poles for a bit of structured play, and a water tank for dogs that can run low in dry weather, so bring a backup bowl. There are poo bag dispensers and bins, and a couple of bench seats for the humans. It is a simple suburban park rather than a big adventure ground, which suits dogs who want space to run and sniff.

Max: do a gate check on the way in, latch and hinges, before you unclip. A fenced park is only as secure as the last person who left, and the 4pm to 6pm regulars come and go constantly.

Getting there

Turn off Tinderbox Road just after Suncoast Drive, past the Scout Hut, with parking on the access road. The Suncoast Walking Track also connects on foot if you want to make the park the end point of a longer on-lead walk.

Close by with the dogs

When to go

Weekday mornings are quieter if your dog needs space; weekends and the late afternoon window draw the regulars. Best for sociable dogs of any size that cope with a rotating cast of playmates.
