Around 44 square metres in size, it's a standalone self-contained space rather than a room in someone's house, which dog owners usually prefer.

Dogs are welcome to stay, and the standout feature for them is the private, sunny, north-facing walled courtyard, which opens off the double-height kitchen through large glass pivot doors for an indoor-outdoor flow. Small and medium dogs are the natural fit for both the space and the courtyard. There's no pet fee listed publicly, but the host, Matt, asks guests to make contact about their dog before booking, so message ahead with your dog's size and temperament to confirm. The cottage is a heritage renovation with a modern interior, and the location is the other half of the pitch: Barrack Street sits on the edge of the CBD, about a 15-minute walk down to Salamanca Place and the waterfront. With only a handful of reviews so far, it's a lesser-known listing, but they're uniformly strong.

Getting there and parking

The cottage is in the CBD grid below the Wrest Point end of town, walking distance to the docks and Salamanca. Hobart has no shortage of paid street and secure parking nearby; check the listing for the specific parking arrangement for your dates.

Close by with the dogs

City rules mean Salamanca lawns, the waterfront promenades around Sullivans Cove and all footpaths are on-lead, so keep the leash on for the harbour stroll. For off-lead time, the Queens Domain is a short drive north with dedicated off-lead zones at the Regatta Grounds, the Wireless Station and the open space between the Aquatic and Tennis Centres.
