Maranoa Heights Reserve is a suburban off-leash reserve on Hawthorn Drive in Kingston, about a hectare of rough grass and mature shade trees that locals use for quick daily walks rather than a destination trip.
The rules. Dogs can run off-lead but need to be under effective control: coming back on command, not chasing wildlife, not bothering other park users. Leash up on the residential streets around the reserve and near the small central playground. Waste bins are generally available near the Hawthorn Drive shop entrance, but bring bags as backup.
What's there. A concrete footpath runs through the middle for an easy loop, rough grass either side, and mature native trees for shade on hot days. There is a small children's playground, so keep dogs close and leashed if kids are around.
Getting there. Street parking on Hawthorn Drive next to the local shop is the easiest option. It is a short drive off Channel Highway, and Metro Tasmania buses through Kingston run close enough on the highway for a walk up.
Nearby with the dogs. True Brew on Goshawk Way is a short trip away, and Kingston Beach's cafe strip, including The Frosty Dog and Robbie Brown's, is close enough to combine with a beach walk.

When to go. Weekday mornings before 8:30am and afternoons from 4pm are busiest with commuter dog walkers. For a quieter run, aim for the late morning to early afternoon window, or combine it with a Kingston Beach walk outside the beach's own peak hours.
