Waterview Gardens B&B

Waterview Gardens B&B is a small hosted bed and breakfast on Frosts Road at Margate, set on an acre of gardens looking over Northwest Bay towards Bruny Island. It is about twenty minutes south of Hobart and makes a quiet base for working through the D'Entrecasteaux Channel with the dog in the car.

Ground rules are sensible: no dogs on the beds or furniture, and you clean up after your own dog in the garden. Rooms are generous for a B&B, each with a private ensuite, and the garden gives a dog a legitimate stretch of lawn at the end of a driving day.

Worth knowing

Wallabies and other native wildlife move through the property, which matters if your dog is prey-driven or reactive. Keep the lead on around the garden edges early morning and evening. The final approach is roughly 400 metres of gravel road off Frosts Road, fine for any car at low speed, and there is free guest parking.

Getting there

The address is 59 Frosts Road, Margate, just off the Channel Highway. Follow Frosts Road south from the Margate shops, then take the gravel side road as directed by the hosts.

Make a day of it

The Dru Point Fenced Dog Park is a short drive away for an off-lead run, and Clarks Beach on North West Bay is handy for a lead-on stroll. Appelflap Cafe in the Margate shopping strip does coffee with outdoor tables. If you want a self-contained option instead, Cedar Cottages Blackmans Bay is the other pet-friendly base in the area.
