Dru Point Fenced Dog Park

Dru Point Fenced Dog Park is a fully enclosed off-lead area of roughly one hectare on The Esplanade in Margate, with a 750-metre perimeter loop through light bush and grassland and water views over the D'Entrecasteaux Channel. It is the most complete fenced dog park on the Kingborough side of Hobart's south.

The dog setup

Dogs run off lead inside the fenced boundary but must stay under effective control the whole time, and they should be on lead coming through the gates. Four access gates keep the area secure, and a separate puppy and small dog zone gives nervous or young dogs a gentler introduction.

Basic agility equipment sits in the south-western corner, there is a water tap with bowls, and shaded picnic tables cover the owners. Bag dispensers and bins are provided, and the park is managed by Kingborough Council.

Max: the grass grows long along the bushland edges, so run a hand over your dog after a session and check for grass seeds before the car trip home.

The wider park

The fenced area sits inside the larger Dru Point Bicentennial Park, which adds public toilets, a modern playground, sheltered barbecue areas and tennis courts. The setting makes it an easy shared morning: one person on playground duty, one on dog duty, and a coffee in the middle.

Getting there and parking

Turn off the Channel Highway (B68) onto Beach Road, then onto The Esplanade. Parking sits near the fenced entrance past the playground and tennis courts, with a larger car park at the end of the road, and accessible parking and entrances are provided.

Make a morning of it

Appelflap Cafe is right in the same park for coffee and Dutch pastries with outdoor seating over the water, and Clarks Beach is close by for a swim on the Channel. For another fenced run, View Drive Fenced Dog Park at Kingston is a short drive north, and Waterview Gardens B&B takes dogs for an overnight stay in the suburb.
