Appelflap Cafe sits right inside Dru Point Bicentennial Park, a few steps from the fenced dog exercise area, which makes it the obvious coffee stop before or after a run-around. Outdoor seating only, dogs on lead, weekends 10am-4pm.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome in the outdoor seating area, which functions as a beer-garden-style space overlooking the park. Indoor seating is a food-service area so it is not the spot to bring your dog, keep to the tables outside. Water bowls are commonly out in the park grounds. Keep dogs on lead while at the cafe tables.

Known for. Appelflaps (authentic Dutch pastries) and gourmet hot dogs on the menu, plus "In the Park After Dark" on Wednesday nights with food, drinks and music. It is a genuine community spot, busy with walkers and families rather than a quiet hideaway.

Getting there and parking. Dru Point Bicentennial Park, Margate. Free parking is plentiful right in the park, with an easy, flat walk to the cafe from the car park.

Nearby with the dogs. The Dru Point Fenced Dog Park is a two-minute walk away with a fenced off-leash loop, agility equipment and a puppy area, ideal for a play before coffee. Waterview Gardens B&B is a short drive away if you are staying overnight in Margate.

Grab a table outside after a lap of the fenced park next door, the whole loop smells like a hundred different dogs and that is basically heaven.

Weekends are the only time it is open, so plan around 10am-4pm and expect it to be busy with park regulars, especially after a sunny morning at the dog park next door.
