Wingrove Park is a local off-leash area off Main Road in Eltham, near the end of Mount Pleasant Road, mixing open grass with bushland and access to Diamond Creek. It is a natural-terrain spot for a roam rather than a fenced enclosure.

The rules. The designated off-leash area sits between the Wingrove Park Trail and Main Road. Dogs must stay under effective control, in constant sight and responsive to commands. Dogs must be on-leash within five metres of shared paths, and on-leash in playground areas and any marked restricted zones. The area is unfenced, so reliable recall matters, especially with Main Road nearby.

What's there. There is a dedicated car park, typically off Mount Pleasant Road, and direct access to the shared Wingrove Park Trail. The setting includes bushland, creek access and open grassy areas. Bring your own water.

With Main Road close to one edge and no fence, this is not the place for a dog that bolts. Keep the lead on until you are well clear of the road side.

Getting there. The park is on Main Road, Eltham, near the Mount Pleasant Road intersection. Buses run along Main Road and Eltham Station on the Hurstbridge line is a short drive or a long walk.

Nearby with the dogs. Tea Pot Cafe runs a dog-friendly verandah with water bowls, a handy stop after a walk.

Weekend mornings and late weekday afternoons are busiest. Mid-week mornings give you the most room to roam.
