Susan Street is a large, open, unfenced off-leash reserve at 4 Susan Street, Eltham, mixing mown grass with natural treed areas and a sports oval. It is a popular local community spot that connects to nearby walking trails, and the appeal is simple: plenty of room to roam without the crowding of a small enclosure.

The rules. Dogs are off-leash within the designated area but must stay under effective voice control and return immediately when called. Keep the lead on in the car park and on surrounding residential streets. If organised sport, training or school activities are on the oval, dogs must be leashed. Carry bags and pick up after your dog.

What's there. Large open grass areas, dog waste bins near the entrance and perimeter, some park benches, and direct access to local pathways for a longer walk.

Getting there. The reserve sits just off Main Road, with parking along Susan Street. Eltham Station on the Hurstbridge line is a short walk, and local pedestrian trails connect from the surrounding streets.

Nearby with the dogs. The Main Road cafes are a two to three minute drive, including Second Home with its dog-friendly courtyard.

When to go. Busiest on weekday mornings and afternoons around school times and weekend mornings. Mid-morning mid-week is quieter. The space is large enough that even when popular there is usually room to spread out. Good for sociable dogs who want open running.
