River Road Reserve Fenced Dog Park

River Road Reserve Fenced Dog Park in Elderslie is a large, fully fenced off-leash reserve on River Road, roughly 6,276 square metres of it, split into a big-dog area and a separate small or timid dog enclosure so nobody gets overwhelmed. Double-gated entry, agility gear, water stations and floodlit paths make it one of the better-equipped off-leash spots in the Macarthur area.

The dog setup

Camden Council runs the reserve as a fenced, off-leash dog park for the whole community. Dogs stay on lead until you are through the double gates and inside the fenced area; once in, they can run free under effective voice control, with owners staying inside to supervise. Both enclosures carry agility equipment, including tunnels, ramps and weave poles, plus fresh water stations with bowls, gazebos for shade and sheltered seating for owners. Dog waste bags are available on site, though bring your own as backup. On-site parking and public toilets sit nearby, and the park is lit for after-dark visits in winter.

Max: use both gates properly, one shut before you open the other. It is a deliberate safety buffer so dogs cannot bolt onto River Road while you are unclipping a lead.

Pepsi: the weave poles and ramps are proper fun if your dog likes a workout, not just a lap around a field. Good for burning energy on a short visit.

Worth knowing

The grass holds up well but turns muddy after heavy rain, and winter mornings can be damp, so factor that in for early starts with a dog that hates wet paws. Weekday mornings and early afternoons are the quiet window if your dog is nervous or you are working on training. Weekends, especially Saturday and Sunday afternoons, draw the biggest crowds, so aim either side of midday if you want more room.

Getting there and parking

The reserve is at 42 River Road, Elderslie, reached easily off Camden Valley Way or Macarthur Road, with a dedicated on-site car park so you are not hunting for street parking. Buses run along Camden Valley Way, but it is a walk in from the closest stop, so driving is the practical option for most visitors.
