Lookover Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

Lookover Reserve is a small neighbourhood off-leash reserve on Lookover Road in Donvale, roughly 0.9 hectares of grass running through a natural gully. It doubles as a pedestrian link between Lookover Road and Glenwood Close, so think leg-stretch spot rather than destination park.

The dog setup The gully shape also means ground water drains toward the middle, so the lowest path can stay damp for a day or two after heavy rain.

Dogs may be off-leash here under effective voice or hand-signal control, and you stay responsible for them not rushing other people or pets. The boundary fences belong to the surrounding houses, not to the council, so treat the whole reserve as open. Clip the lead back on within 15 metres of any playground, barbecue or organised sporting event.

Come self-sufficient. There are no bins, no water taps and no real seating or lighting, so pack your own waste bags and drinking water, and carry everything out again. After rain the gully gets boggy, so expect muddy paws in the low sections.

Max: No fence and a through-path to Glenwood Close means dogs can drift off. Only unclip if recall is reliable, and watch the exits.

The vibe Because it works as a walking link, you will see people passing through with dogs on lead, so give them room.

It stays quiet. Locals use it early morning or early evening, and mid-morning or mid-afternoon on a weekday is the calmest window. This is a spot for a short, low-key run with a known-to-you dog, not a long social session.

The reserve sits at 17 Lookover Road, with limited informal on-street parking nearby. You can enter on foot from either Lookover Road or Glenwood Close. There is no direct bus service to this suburban pocket, so driving or walking in is easiest.

Close by with the dogs

If you need more space or proper facilities, Woolerton Reserve is another Donvale off-leash option, and the off-leash area at Hillcrest Reserve is a similar low-key local. For a fully fenced session with water and agility gear, Aranga Reserve is the pick of the suburb.
