Marshall Reserve Dog Off Leash Area

Marshall Reserve on Marshall Avenue is a local Doncaster sports reserve where the dog run happens on the fenced sportsground. It is an open, undulating space that gives an active dog room to move, and it suits locals after a solid off-lead session rather than visitors looking for a destination park.

The dog setup

Dogs go off-leash inside the fenced sportsground under effective voice or hand control, but not while organised matches or training are on, so check the sports schedule before relying on the oval being free. Keep dogs on lead on the surrounding pathways, car park and playground, and at least 20 metres from the playground, BBQ and picnic areas. Clean-up is enforced and bags are provided, though Manningham signage on lead zones is the authority if anything changes. There is no dedicated dog water tap, so bring your own bowl and water, especially through summer.

The vibe

Weekday mornings are the quiet window; weekends and weekday evenings are busiest, and street parking tightens in good weather. The grassy ground has trees dotted along the perimeter and unshaded log benches for owners. The reserve also carries a basketball court, a pavilion and a children's playground with a giant turtle sculpture at its northern end.

Getting there and parking

The reserve is on Marshall Avenue, reached via Manningham Road or Blackburn Road, with entries from three street sides. Street parking runs along Marshall Avenue and can be limited on a busy weekend. Bus routes on Doncaster Road and Blackburn Road put the reserve within walking distance of public transport.

For a bigger outing, Ruffey Lake Park at Doncaster East has lakewater circuits and open hills, and the Koonung Creek Linear Park off-leash area runs along the freeway corridor for a flatter walk. The Burgundy Reserve off-leash area is another close option, and Secret Grounds Cafe works for a coffee afterwards.
