Katrina Gully Dog Off Leash Area

Katrina Gully sits off Katrina Street in Doncaster, inside the Koonung Creek corridor that Manningham Council manages, mixing open grass, mature trees and shared walking trails. It is a local off-lead patch that handles both an energetic run and a casual circuit walk, and the gully's slope and tree cover give it more character than a flat suburban oval.

The dog setup

Dogs run off lead on the grassed areas under effective voice or visual control, but the reserve is unfenced and the shared paths through the gully carry cyclists and pedestrians. Recall needs to hold, and if it slips the lead goes back on.

Manningham's distance rules apply: on lead within 15 metres of the playground, play equipment and BBQ areas, and out of the shaded playground and nature-play zones entirely. Bins are provided for waste, and it is worth checking the on-site signage for current lead zones.

Max: unfenced gully parks live or die on the boundary lines. Here the playground sits right in the reserve, so the 15-metre leash line is the thing to teach your dog before anything else.

Worth knowing

The park carries more than dogs: a water fountain with a dog bowl, bench seating, a shaded playground with nature play, outdoor fitness equipment and a basketball area all share the space. Expect families and school groups around the edges on weekday afternoons.

The gully's trees give the walking paths decent cover in summer, though the open grass runs hot by mid-afternoon and the fountain is the only water source on site. Early mornings and after the school pickup are the most useful windows for an off-lead session without the crowds.

Getting there and parking

Access is off Katrina Street with residential street parking around the reserve. Paved shared paths run along the gully and connect straight into the Koonung Creek Trail for a longer walk in either direction.

Close by with the dogs

The Koonung Creek Linear Park off-lead area continues the same corridor for a bigger run, and Ruffey Lake Park at Doncaster East is the large-scale option nearby.
