Kenna Street Park Dog Off Leash Area, known locally as John Goss Reserve, is a fenced off-leash dog park on Maundrell Terrace in Chermside West. It pairs a roomy main enclosure with a separate small-dog section, basic agility equipment and good tree shade, and it is open around the clock.

The dog setup

The off-leash area is enclosed, with a separate fenced section sized for small or timid dogs, so a puppy or a nervous dog has somewhere to go when the main yard is busy. There is a dog water point, shaded seating and a gazebo, waste bags and bins on site, and simple agility gear for a structured play session. Dogs stay on lead until you are inside the gates, must be under effective voice or hand control throughout, and any dog showing aggressive behaviour has to be leashed and taken out straight away. Keep your own bag supply as backup even with bags provided.

Pepsi: the separate small-dog yard is the reason to come here with a little one. Check which enclosure the big dogs are using before you commit to the main gate.

The vibe

A neighbourhood park that does the daily-run job properly rather than a showpiece. The eucalypt shade makes summer mornings workable, and the park is large enough that you can find a quieter corner even at peak times. Weekday middays are the calm window; mornings before 9am, evenings after 4pm and weekend mornings draw the regulars. The park sits beside a kids playground with shade sails, so keep your dog close at the entry side.

Getting there and parking

The off-leash area runs off Maundrell Terrace, with street parking near the entrance. Buses along Maundrell Terrace and nearby Webster Road give you a public transport option, and the reserve sits about 15 minutes from Westfield Chermside.

Close by with the dogs

Martindale Street Park Fenced Dog Park on Trouts Road is the other fenced option in the same suburb, and Burnie Brae Off Leash Dog Park at Chermside is a short drive down the road. For a post-park coffee, Routine is the local dog-friendly cafe pick, and the Milne Hill Reservoir trail adds an on-lead leg stretch.
