Routine is a compact neighbourhood coffee spot at 46 Ainsdale Street in Chermside West, open from 6am every day, and a genuine local favourite for the morning dog walk. Seating sits out front on the footpath and patio, which is exactly where dogs are welcome.

Water is available for dogs and the staff have a reputation for welcoming them. Keep your dog leashed and settled as per standard footpath etiquette; the front strip is compact, so a dog tucked in beside a chair works best.

The vibe and the menu

The coffee is the point: St Ali beans, dialled in, alongside banana bread, bacon and egg rolls, loaded bagels and Portuguese tarts for the cabinet crowd. Oat milk is standard, and the community feel is what regulars keep coming back for. Hours run 6am to noon daily, with Friday evening wine sessions on some weeks, so this is strictly a morning venue for dogs and humans alike.

Getting there and parking

The cafe sits in a quiet residential pocket of Chermside West with free street parking along Ainsdale Street, and the surrounding streets are calm enough for an easy leashed walk from nearby blocks.

Turn the coffee into a proper walk: the fenced run at Martindale Street Park is in the same suburb, the Milne Hill Reservoir trail gives a bushland loop close by, and Deja Bru Cafe at McDowall is the next dog-friendly coffee stop over.
