Milne Hill Reservoir

Milne Hill Reserve sits on Hamilton Road in Chermside West, part of the wider Chermside Hills Reserves. The main drawcard is the open, grassy hilltop area with genuine city views over Brisbane, plus surrounding walking trails through wooded terrain.

The rules. The hilltop grassy area itself is open, unfenced off-leash space. Once you drop into the surrounding Chermside Hills Reserves tracks, dogs need to be back on lead, particularly on the narrower wooded sections and near wildlife areas. The terrain on those trails gets steep with some tight paths, so a dog that tends to wander is safer leashed even before the signage requires it. Waste bags and bins are provided on-site and picking up is expected.

What's there. A small carpark off Hamilton Road, park benches and logs to sit on at the summit, waste bins near the entrance, and a water fountain for people and dogs, though it is worth bringing extra water given the exposed, largely shadeless hilltop.

Getting there. Access is via Hamilton Road, Chermside West. TransLink buses run to Hamilton Road near Trouts Road, with a walk in from there. The carpark fills quickly around sunset, but street parking on nearby streets is usually available as a backup.

Nearby with the dogs. Andonis Cafe & Bar in Chermside runs a dog menu in its outdoor dining area, and Table 26 nearby also takes a pet-friendly approach, both roughly five minutes away by car.

Sunset on warm weekends is the peak window and the hill becomes a genuine local hub. Weekday mornings or mid-afternoons are calmer if your dog finds crowds or wind unsettling, and it is worth checking current signage on-site since park-specific rules can be updated.
