Marchant Park Fenced Dog Park

Marchant Park Fenced Dog Park is a fully fenced off-leash enclosure off Murphy Road in Aspley, on Brisbane's north side. The draw is a large, flat, double-gated run that stays quieter than many of the northside's busier dog parks, with enough open ground to give a nervous dog room away from the pack.

The dog setup

The whole fenced area is off-lead, but dogs must stay under effective control and in sight, per Brisbane City Council's off-leash rules. Entry runs through a double gate, so latch the first before opening the second and no one gets a head start on the car park outside.

The flat ground makes it easy going for older dogs as well.

There are no separate small-dog and large-dog pens, though the size of the space makes distance easy to keep if your dog needs it. Water fountains, shaded seating and mature trees cover the comfort side, and bag dispensers are usually stocked; carry your own as a backup anyway.

Max: after a dry spell the ground bakes hard and dusty, so check the surface before a big sprinting session and pack extra water.

Worth knowing

This is a local, low-key run rather than a destination park, and it works as part of a longer outing because the wider Marchant Park precinct also takes in 7th Brigade Park and the Kidspace playground. Early mornings and late afternoons draw the after-work crowd; mid-morning has the most room.

The enclosure is open around the clock, so a late summer session works too when the daytime heat is too much.

Getting there and parking

The park sits off Murphy Road, reached via Murphy Road or Gympie Road, with on-site parking plus street parking along the boundaries. Frequent bus routes run along Gympie Road if you are not driving, and the flat terrain keeps most of the ground wheelchair accessible.

Make a day of it

Milk & Froth Aspley on Robinson Road West is a short drive for dog-friendly coffee, and Zambrero Aspley has footpath tables minutes away on Gympie Road.
