Bayview Dog Park

Rowland Reserve, known to just about everyone as Bayview Dog Park, is a 24-hour off-leash reserve on Pittwater Road with grassed parkland running straight onto the tidal sand flats of Pittwater. It is one of the busiest dog spots on the Northern Beaches, and the reason is simple: dogs can run the grass and then walk straight into calm, sheltered water for a swim.

The dog setup

Off-leash access applies around the clock across the reserve and the adjoining tidal flats, but the area is not fenced. It borders Pittwater Road on one side and open water on the other, so reliable recall is the price of entry here, and dogs stay on-lead in the car park and around the boat ramp.

Conditions change with the tide. Mid to high tide gives good, sheltered swimming close to shore, while low tide turns the flats to shallow mud, so expect a muddy dog on the walk back.

There is no surf, which suits nervous swimmers and older dogs better than an ocean beach.

Max: this place is unfenced and sits on a road and open water, so treat recall as non-negotiable, especially near the car park where the comings and goings are constant.

Worth knowing

A dog wash and a coffee van on site make it a proper destination rather than a quick stop, and fresh water taps, bins, bag dispensers and benches line the park edge. Toilets sit nearby.

Because it draws a crowd, weekend mornings are busy and lively; a reactive or timid dog will do better on a weekday.

Getting there and parking

The reserve sits on Pittwater Road in Bayview, roughly opposite the Bayview Tennis Club, with parking on site and in surrounding streets. It fills early on sunny weekends, so arrive before the crowd if a close car spot matters.

Buses along Pittwater Road stop near the entrance, and it is an easy walk or ride from Church Point along the foreshore.

Make a day of it

Pasadena at Church Point is a short drive or foreshore walk away and a popular post-park stop, while Newport Park Fenced Dog Park covers the secure run if your dog needs a fully enclosed space. Palm Beach Dog Off-Leash Beach adds an ocean option further up the peninsula.
