Shepherd Parade Reserve Off Leash Dog Area

Shepherd Parade Reserve is Bardwell Valley's local off-leash spot, a stretch of open, unfenced grass bordering Bardwell Creek that suits a proper creek-side sniff more than a fenced play session. It's open around the clock, and the creek is the main drawcard, so come prepared for a wet or muddy dog.

The rules. Dogs can run off-leash here, but they need to be under effective voice control and in your sight the whole time. Leash up again before you enter and before you leave, since the reserve borders residential streets. Any dog showing aggression or being antisocial towards people or other dogs needs to go straight back on lead and be removed. There's no fencing at all, so this only works for a dog that reliably comes back when called.

What's there. Facilities are basic: bins for waste are provided, but no bags, so bring your own. There's no water tap, no seating, and no toilets, and the area isn't lit, so plan on a daylight visit. Expect mud after rain, this is a creek flat, not a manicured park.

Getting there. The reserve sits on Shepherd Parade, Bardwell Valley, with ample free on-street parking right along the street. It's best reached by car or on foot from the surrounding residential blocks; there's no direct public transport to the gate itself.

Nearby with the dogs. For a fully fenced alternative nearby, Cahill Park Fenced Dog Park in Wolli Creek is a short drive away. Refuel afterwards at Where's Wolli Cafe or head towards Kingsgrove for ickle coffee.

Weekdays tend to be quieter than the late afternoon rush, and Sunday is generally the calmest day to visit. Good for dogs that love a muddy creek paddle and know their way back to you.
