Baci's Coffee

Baci's Coffee is a weekend coffee van trading as Piccolo by Baci's on the Esplanade at Altona, directly across the road from GH Ransom Reserve and a short walk from Seaholme. It is a beachside stop rather than a sit-down cafe: the van serves specialty coffee and its signature chocolate caramel cookie to people walking the coastal path, and dogs are part of the regular crowd, welcomed on-lead around the serving area.

The dog setup

There is no indoor seating; your options are the open grass of GH Ransom Reserve opposite and the Esplanade footpath, both of which are on-lead. That suits the format well, because most people here arrive on a dog walk in the first place. Water bowl availability varies day to day, so bring your own collapsible bowl. Keep your dog clear of the bike path and the road side of the Esplanade, which carries more traffic than it looks on a quiet morning.

The vibe and the menu

The menu is coffee-focused with a solid iced range for warm days, rotating seasonal specials and sweet treats, and the beach outlook across to Altona Beach is the draw. The van trades weekends, typically from 8am to 1pm, so this is a Saturday-and-Sunday ritual rather than a weekday habit. It is best treated as a coffee-and-cookie break on the grass rather than a destination in itself.

Getting there and parking

The van sits on the Esplanade at Altona, roughly two kilometres along the coast from central Seaholme, with free street parking along the Esplanade and around GH Ransom Reserve.

The Altona Beach Dog Off Leash Arena and the adjacent P A Burns Reserve Fenced Dog Park are the proper off-lead options a short stroll away, and Altona Dog Beach Parking covers the beach access. The Hobsons Bay Coastal Trail: Williamstown to Altona runs right past the van. For a bricks-and-mortar coffee, Jimmy The Van is the other casual dog-friendly stop in Altona.
