Gloucester Reserve is an open, off-leash grassed reserve on The Strand in Williamstown, overlooking the water and the city skyline. It is off-leash across the whole park and links by coastal path to the larger Cyril Curtain Reserve, so it works as one end of a longer off-leash walk.
The rules. Dogs may be off-leash throughout the reserve but must return on command and stay in sight. On leash the moment you leave the zone, including the surrounding streets. Waste must be removed immediately and binned on site, and all dogs over three months must be registered. Greyhounds must stay on-leash at all times, even inside the off-leash area. This is Hobsons Bay City Council land, so check the on-site signs on the day.

Watch-outs. The nearby Williamstown Beach bans dogs from the sand between the Life Saving Club and Sebastian Beach Grill & Bar from 10am to 9:30pm, 1 November to 30 April. Much of the reserve is open with only scattered tree shade, so plan around the heat on hot days.
What's there. A large open run, waste bins, some mature trees for patchy shade, and coastal paths connecting to the neighbouring reserves.
Getting there. The reserve is on The Strand. Street parking runs along The Strand but fills fast on sunny weekends; parking a few streets back is the easier play. Williamstown Beach and Williamstown stations are both roughly a 15 to 20 minute walk.
Nearby with the dogs. Crowded House on Ferguson Street is a well-known dog-friendly cafe, and Nelson Place has several venues with dog-welcoming outdoor seating for after the walk.
When to go. Early mornings before 9am and weekday afternoons are the quietest. Sunny weekends and public holidays between 10am and 4pm are busiest; if it is crowded, follow the path on toward Cyril Curtain Reserve for more room.
