Bracegirdle's Hahndorf

Bracegirdle's is the chocolate cafe at 102 Mount Barker Road on Hahndorf's main strip, half dessert bar, half cafe: handmade chocolates, hot chocolate, waffles, sticky date pudding and a high tea that books out. Dogs are welcome at the outdoor tables only, and after roughly three years of indoor access that ended in 2026, inside is people only.

The dog setup

The shaded outdoor seating runs down the side of the building and across the front. The side tables are the pick with a dog: quieter, with more room between groups, while the front tables sit on the tourist flow. Water bowls are often put out but carry your own portable bowl as backup. Keep the lead on and settled; the strip gets dense foot traffic.

The vibe

This is a sweet-tooth stop rather than a long lunch: the chocolate cabinet is the draw, high tea is prepared fresh and needs booking ahead via the venue's website, and the kitchen covers breakfast and lunch staples for anyone dragged along by a chocoholic. Weekday mornings are calmer than the weekend wave; hours per the venue's site are 9am to 3pm Monday to Friday and 8:30am to 4pm on weekends.

Getting there and parking

Free street parking runs along Mount Barker Road and fills quickly on weekends, when the side streets are usually easier. A small on-site spot exists, and everything on the Hahndorf strip is walkable from the door.

Close by with the dogs

The historic main street suits an on-lead stroll between chocolate stops, and The Haus Restaurant and the Hahndorf Inn both take dogs on their outdoor decks for a proper meal. For off-lead time, Barka Park in Mount Barker is a fully fenced park with separate large and small dog zones, about ten minutes away.
