Same But Different Cafe

Same But Different is a casual cafe at 57 Main Street in the middle of Hahndorf's historic strip, long one of the most vocally dog-welcoming spots in town. The one thing to know before you go: as of May 2026 a council ruling on hygiene means dogs are now restricted to the outdoor and footpath seating, not inside, so plan to sit out front.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome at the footpath and outdoor tables, weather permitting. The interior dining room is currently off-limits to pets after a council complaint, though the owner has run a petition to bring them back inside. Check with staff on arrival for the latest. The cafe has historically given visiting dogs a warm welcome, but bring your own collapsible water bowl to be sure.

Good to know. The draw is good coffee, bagels and a relaxed, community feel, with gluten-free options on the menu. It sits right on the busy main street, so expect plenty of foot traffic past your table.

Getting there. Street parking runs along Main Street but fills fast on weekends and through tourist season. There are public car parks just off the strip, including behind the Hahndorf Academy and near the Lutheran church, a short walk away.

Nearby with the dogs. The whole Main Street is an easy on-leash stroll, with water bowls outside many shops. The Hahndorf Academy grounds nearby give you a patch of green to stretch out before or after.

Quieter mid-week and in the mornings; weekends get crowded. Good for a coffee stop while walking the town.
