Sidewood Estate Restaurant

Sidewood Estate is an Adelaide Hills winery and restaurant at 6 River Road, a few minutes from Hahndorf's main street, set in a transformed apple shed looking over the vines. For dog owners the draw is the lawn and garden seating, where leashed dogs are welcome while you work through cool-climate wines and wood-fired food.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome on the grass, lawn and garden areas where the casual outdoor menu is served, and they must stay on a lead and controlled beside you. The estate's terms are specific about where they cannot go: the main restaurant, the enclosed deck areas and the courtyard are all off limits. Mention the dog when you book so you are seated at a suitable outdoor table, and bring your own water bowl.

The vibe

Sidewood is known for cool-climate Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir, plus ciders, wood-fired pizzas and a seasonal menu built on local produce. Lawn games and open space make it an unhurried afternoon rather than a quick tasting stop, and there is plenty of room for a dog to settle without crowding other tables.

Getting there and parking

The estate sits just off the main Adelaide Hills road, minutes from central Hahndorf, with large free on-site parking at the cellar door. That makes it one of the easier Hills venues to reach with a dog in the car.
