CABN Hahndorf

CABN Hahndorf is a compact off-grid cabin retreat set on the historic Cedars property near Hahndorf in the Adelaide Hills, built for quiet and scenery rather than facilities. Dogs are welcome in designated pet-friendly cabins, and kangaroos grazing the property at dusk are part of the draw.

The dog setup

Dogs are accepted in the pet-friendly cabins, and you must select the pet-friendly option when booking so you are placed in a suitable cabin. A $40 pet fee per stay applies to cover additional cleaning.

The important rule: the site is unfenced, so dogs stay on lead at all times outdoors. That applies however quiet the bushland looks, and it is worth respecting for the wildlife as much as for your dog.

Max: unfenced bush means no off-lead moments here. Keep the lead on, watch for kangaroos, and do not assume a recall will hold against a bolting roo.

The place

The cabin sleeps a couple plus bunks, with a comfy bed, big windows onto the bush and a deck for the view. Guests talk up the scenery, the wildlife and the sense of being away from it all; this is a switch-off stay, so bring what you need rather than expecting services on site.

Getting there

The retreat sits at 59 Sandow Road near Verdun, a short drive from Hahndorf's main street and about 25 minutes from Adelaide up the freeway. You will want the car for the whole stay, both for the cabin access and for touring the Hills.

Close by with the dogs

Hahndorf's main street is dog friendly at the outdoor tables, with spots like Same But Different Cafe for breakfast. For an off-lead run, Balhannah Dog Park is the nearest fenced option, and Nepenthe Cellar Door at Balhannah suits a dog-friendly tasting.
