Wright Road Fenced Dog Park

Wright Road Fenced Dog Park sits in the Evelyn Halliday Reserve at 18 Wright Road, Stirling, in the Adelaide Hills, and it is the Adelaide Hills Council's flagship off-leash facility. More than two acres of fully fenced natural bushland with shady trails and a shallow creek make it the standout reason to bring a dog to Stirling: a secure space where a keen runner can go properly wild in Hills scenery.

The dog setup

The ground is natural rather than mown lawn: mature trees, logs, grassy patches, looped gravel paths and the creek for water play, all inside a fully fenced perimeter with double-gated airlock entrances. A dedicated separately fenced section serves puppies and smaller or less confident dogs, away from the main pack. Waste bins sit near the Wright Road entrance, and free off-street parking is right by the gate.

Worth knowing

Off-leash applies inside the fence only. Dogs must be leashed in the car park and across the surrounding Evelyn Halliday Reserve, kept under effective voice control at all times and never left unattended. Opening hours run 7am to sunset on weekdays and 9am to sunset on weekends and public holidays. The creek and natural surfaces turn the park muddy through winter and after rain, so a towel in the car earns its keep.

Max: Do your leads-on, leads-off routine at the double gates, not in the car park. The airlock exists so nobody bolts when the outer gate opens.

Getting there

The park is off Wright Road, an easy run from the South Eastern Freeway, with parking at the reserve. Public transport is possible via the 864 and 865 stops in Stirling village, but that leaves an uphill walk, so most visitors drive. Sunny weekday mornings and late afternoons draw the regulars, and weekend mid-mornings are the busiest slot; for a nervous dog, quieter weekday sessions are the play.

Make a day of it

Stirling's main street is a couple of minutes south for a post-run feed. Patch Kitchen & Garden and Miss Perez Kitchen & Bar both take dogs at outdoor tables, and La Viennese does a dog gelato.
