Wright Road Fenced Dog Park

Wright Road Fenced Dog Park, on the Evelyn Halliday Reserve at 18 Wright Road in Stirling, is the Adelaide Hills Council's flagship off-leash park: over two acres of fully fenced, natural bushland with shady trails, a shallow creek for water play, and a separate small-dog section. It is the reason to bring a dog to Stirling, a secure space to let a keen runner off in Hills scenery.

The rules. Dogs are off-leash inside the fence but must be leashed in the car park and the surrounding reserve. Effective voice control is required at all times, and dogs cannot be left unattended. Opening hours are 7am to sunset Monday to Friday, and 9am to sunset on weekends and public holidays. Clean up after your dog; bags and bins are provided.

What's there. The ground is natural rather than mown lawn: mature trees, logs, grassy patches and the creek, with double-gated entrances for safe airlocks. There is a dedicated fenced area for puppies and smaller or less confident dogs, plus picnic seating and shade. Free off-street parking is on site.

Watch-outs. The creek and the natural surface mean the park turns muddy through winter and after rain, so keep a towel in the car. If your dog is reactive or still learning, the small-dog enclosure gives you a quieter option away from the main pack.

Getting there and transit. The park is off Wright Road, an easy run from the South Eastern Freeway, with parking at the park itself. On public transport, the nearest stops are in Stirling village on the 864 and 865 routes, leaving a walk uphill to the reserve, so most visitors drive.

Nearby with the dog. Stirling's main street is a couple of minutes south for a post-run feed. Patch Kitchen & Garden and Miss Perez Kitchen & Bar both take dogs at their outdoor tables, and La Viennese does a dog gelato.

When to go. Sunny weekday mornings and late afternoons are busiest, and weekend mid-mornings draw the biggest crowd. For a calmer session with a nervous dog, aim for a quieter weekday slot. Good for big runners and social dogs who want space to move.
