Lones Hut

Lones Hut is the camp hut and campground area inside Woodhouse Adventure Park, the Scouts SA property of 54 hectares on Spring Gully Road on the Stirling and Piccadilly boundary in the Adelaide Hills. It is a back-to-basics bush camp with fire pits, showers and toilets, and beds for groups within the wider park. There is an important catch for dog owners, covered below.

The pet policy

Per the operator's own visitor information, pets are not permitted at Woodhouse. The policy exists to protect the park's wildlife, particularly koalas, which are regularly spotted moving along the ground between trees, and for the comfort of other guests.

The only exception is guide dogs and accredited assistance or service dogs, whose access rights are protected under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992. Emotional support dogs are not accepted. Older camping directories that list this property as dog friendly are out of date.

The place

The campground sits in bushland with fire pits, showers, toilets and on-site parking, and the wider park runs Challenge Hill climbing, a tube slide on weekends and creek-side exploring. It is a screen-free, self-sufficient style of stay aimed at families, school groups and scouts.

Location and nearby

The park is about 25 minutes from Adelaide, close to Stirling's cafes and the Patch Kitchen & Garden restaurant, with Hahndorf and Mount Barker a short drive away. If you are travelling with a dog, CABN Hahndorf and Discovery Parks - Hahndorf are nearby stays that do take dogs.

Who it suits

This is a good base for families and groups without pets who want affordable bushland accommodation in the Hills. Dog owners should book elsewhere and use the Wright Road Fenced Dog Park for a run in the same suburb.

Before you book

Book through Woodhouse directly, confirm current rates and minimum numbers for the hut, and leave the dog at home. Assistance dog handlers should call the office on (08) 8339 3333 ahead of arrival to have accreditation noted on the booking.
