Patch Kitchen & Garden

Patch Kitchen & Garden is a garden-to-table restaurant at 143 Mount Barker Road in Stirling, wrapped in its own planting and built around local, seasonal produce. For dog owners the draw is the umbrella-covered outdoor area looking over the gardens, where a well-settled dog can sit beside you through a long Adelaide Hills lunch.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the outdoor seating, which is partly shaded by large market umbrellas, and they stay outside the main dining rooms. That indoor line is standard across South Australia, where food-safety rules keep dogs out of enclosed dining areas, so plan on the garden patio. Water bowls are usually available, but pack your own to be safe, and keep your dog on a lead and settled at the table, since the space is close-planted rather than sprawling.

The vibe

The kitchen leans hard into fresh, local, seasonal ingredients, with gnocchi, crab pasta and wagyu beef among the dishes people return for, plus souffles to finish and a proper kids menu, and there is a cubby house on the grounds that keeps younger visitors busy. There is a separate dinner menu on top of lunch. The week runs limited: lunch Thursday to Sunday and dinner Thursday to Saturday, closed Monday to Wednesday, so check before you drive up the hill.

Getting there and parking

It sits on the main road through Stirling, so it is easy to find, but street parking directly on Mount Barker Road is limited. The residential side streets around the village give you more, with a short walk back. Coming up from the freeway it is a couple of minutes past the Stirling interchange.

Close by with the dogs

The Wright Road Fenced Dog Park is a couple of minutes away for a run before lunch, and La Viennese down the street is the coffee stop. For another meal, Miss Perez Kitchen & Bar on Druid Avenue has a shaded, dog-friendly deck, and FRED Eatery covers the next village over.
