Hahndorf Inn

The Hahndorf Inn is a historic 1863 German pub at 35 Mount Barker Road, known for huge pork knuckles, pretzels and beer paddles. For dog owners the draw is the outdoor terrace, where dogs are welcome in all the outdoor seating while you settle into a long German lunch.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome on the outdoor terrace and seating, not in the main indoor dining room. Staff are dog-friendly and water bowls are often provided, but bring your own portable bowl to be safe. It is worth telling the booking staff you have a dog so they seat you on the terrace.

Good to know. The kitchen is built around massive pork knuckle, pretzels and German platters, with an extensive German beer list including steins and tasting paddles. The atmosphere is traditional and bustling, so a calm dog copes better than a nervous one.

Getting there. Free street parking runs along the main street but fills fast on weekends. Side streets such as Pine Avenue are a good fallback.

Nearby with the dogs. The main street is highly walkable and scenic on-leash, the Hahndorf Academy nearby has open space, and several venues along Mount Barker Road have outdoor tables that take dogs.

Quieter on weekdays; weekends are very busy. Good for a settled dog that does not mind a noisy, full pub.
