EightyTwenty Coombs

EightyTwenty in Coombs is the Molonglo Valley's health-forward cafe, running on an 80 percent nourishing, 20 percent indulgent philosophy and open daily from 6:45am to 3pm. Unusually for a cafe, dogs are welcome inside as well as in the outdoor seating, which makes it a reliable wet-weather option for Canberra dog owners.

The dog setup

Leashed dogs can join you indoors or at the outdoor tables, so a rainy morning does not sink the plan. It is a family-friendly room that packs out on weekends, so tuck your dog close to the table and bring your own water bowl; staff are used to dogs but the room is busy rather than spacious.

Worth knowing

The menu covers diets properly: extensive vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options alongside a mighty breakfast on housemade sourdough, a loaded breakfast burger and a granola bowl with housemade vegan granola. The acai bowls and French toast are the regulars' picks, and the raw desserts are worth saving room for. Coffee is consistent and the chai gets repeat mentions. All-day menu service runs to the 3pm close, but weekend mornings bring a wait.

Getting there and parking

The cafe sits in the heart of Coombs, a straight run out of the city via Adelaide Avenue and Cotter Road, with street parking nearby. The Molonglo River corridor and its shared paths sit close for the walking half of the outing.

Close by with the dogs
