The Happy Turtle Cafe

The Happy Turtle is a casual, eco-minded cafe on the Esplanade at the Happy Valley end of Bulcock Beach in Caloundra, sitting right on the coastal path opposite the playground and the sand. Dogs are welcome at the outdoor tables, and with the beach foreshore in front and the coastal walkway at the door, it works as a natural mid-walk stop with ocean views.

The dog setup

Dogs join you in the relaxed outdoor seating overlooking the water, at footpath level right beside the coastal pathway. There is room for a dog to settle next to the table, though the area is popular and fills on sunny days. Keep your dog on lead out of respect for the busy pedestrian path, and bring a water bowl to be sure.

The vibe

The kitchen leans healthy: acai bowls, smoothies, wraps and a clearly labelled vegan range, with the cafe's sustainability ethos part of the draw. Hours can shift with the weather and the season, so check their social pages before a special trip. The position opposite Happy Valley playground also makes it an easy family-plus-dog stop.

Getting there and parking

It is on the Esplanade at Bulcock Beach, with street parking along the Esplanade that gets very busy on weekends and fine days. The cafe sits on the main coastal walking path, so it is easy to reach on foot from Bulcock Beach or Kings Beach without moving the car.

When to go

Weekday mornings are calm with clear views. Weekends and warm afternoons draw families and dogs, so come early if you want an outdoor table with space.

Close by with the dogs

The Bulcock Beach foreshore is directly in front for a scenic on-lead walk, and the paved path runs through to Kings Beach or south toward the Pumicestone Passage. For an off-lead run, Coochin Park Dog Off Leash Area at Dicky Beach and the Currimundi Beach off-leash section are both short drives. Aurenda Coffee Co. and Salti Reads are other dog friendly coffee stops nearby.
