Currimundi Beach Access Point 255-262 Dog Off Leash Area

This 1.3-kilometre stretch of white sand between Beach Access 255 and 262, running roughly from Gothic Parade to Ann Street in Currimundi, is a 24-hour off-leash beach and one of the more spacious surf beaches on the Sunshine Coast for dogs that want real room to run and swim.

The rules. Off-leash applies on the sand between Access 255 and Access 262, 24 hours a day, but dogs need to be leashed in the car parks and on the walk down to the beach. Keep your dog under voice control at all times, and stay off the dunes and foreshore reserve entirely, that ground is protected for native wildlife and is not part of the off-leash area. Bag and bin waste, bins are provided. The nearby Currimundi Lake is a separate, dog-free zone, so do not assume the off-leash rule carries over if you wander that way.

The water. This is a surf beach, not a lake, so expect waves and a bit of a shore break rather than calm water. Low tide opens up the most sand to run on; high tide is fine for a swim but leaves less beach. There is no lifeguard patrol on the off-leash stretch itself, so keep an eye on conditions, especially with strong swimmers or nervous dogs.

What's there. A dog wash station is available for rinsing off sand and salt before you head home, and water bowls are set out along the access points. Toilets are a short walk away at Cliff Hargreaves Park. Free parking is available at both ends, the northern end near Gothic Parade/Access 260 and the southern end near Access 262.

Getting there. Free parking at the Gothic Parade and Access 262 car parks is the easiest approach; both fill up on weekend mornings, so arrive early if you want a close spot. TransLink buses run along Buderim Street, with a short walk to the beach from the closest stops.

Nearby with the dogs. Penny G's Coffee on Lomandra Drive does outdoor and footpath seating for dogs after a beach session, and Currimundi Lake nearby offers calmer paddling water if the surf is too rough that day.

Go early on weekday mornings or late afternoon for the most space; weekends and school holidays bring the crowds. Low tide gives the most sand to work with, so it is worth timing a visit around the tide chart rather than the clock alone.
