Coochin Park Dog Off Leash Area

Coochin Park is a three-hectare off-leash reserve on Coochin Street in Dicky Beach, a short walk from the beachfront shops on Beerburrum Street. It is a genuine locals' park: open grass, good tree cover and enough room for a proper run rather than a quick lap, and it is open around the clock.

The rules at the gate

There is no perimeter fence, so the off-leash allowance runs on effective control: your dog needs a reliable recall and to stay supervised, and the park suits recall-trained dogs rather than escape artists. Declared dangerous or menacing dogs are not permitted under Sunshine Coast Council rules, and reactive dogs should be kept away from other users altogether.

The off-leash status applies to the open park, not the playground or the picnic and barbecue spots, so clip the lead back on near those. Pick up straight away; bins are on site.

What's there

Expect shade trees, waste bins, accessible entrances and open green space, with the essentials rather than agility equipment. Ground can hold water and turn muddy after rain, so expect puddles around the low spots. Weekday mornings and evenings are the quiet windows, and weekend afternoons are the busy ones.

Max: no fence means the boundary is your problem. If your dog is not rock solid on recall, work the middle of the park and keep an eye on the street edges.

Getting there

The park sits just off Nicklin Way via Beerburrum Street, with street parking along Coochin Street and the surrounding residential roads. Bus routes along Nicklin Way cover it if you are coming without a car.

Close by with the dogs

The Dicky Beach shopping strip on Beerburrum Street is a few minutes east, and Between the Flags Coffee there is the natural post-park coffee stop, with The Sanctuary Cafe a solid second option on the same strip. The beach itself and the coastal path toward Moffat Beach make an easy on-lead add-on if the park run is not enough.
