Salti Reads

Salti Reads is a bookshop and coffee cafe rolled into one on the Esplanade at Bulcock Beach in Caloundra, directly across from the boardwalk. It is openly dog-friendly, with water bowls and free treats set out for visiting dogs, which makes it a relaxed coastal stop to browse a book over a coffee with the dog at your feet.

Dogs are welcome on the outdoor terrace, where the cafe puts out water bowls and often free treats. The coastal-facing setting is shady and calm, good for settling in beside the table rather than hovering. Keep the lead on, since the Esplanade out front carries a steady flow of pedestrians, prams and other dogs.

The books and the coffee

This is a genuine hybrid rather than a cafe with a bookshelf: a curated bookshop and gift store pouring Paradox Coffee Roasters, with book clubs and author events on the calendar. The mix of browsing and coffee makes it a linger spot rather than a quick takeaway, which suits a settled dog. Hours run 6am to 5pm on weekdays, 6am to 2pm Saturday and 7am to 12:30pm Sunday.

Getting there and the beach run

It is at Shop 6, 38 The Esplanade, Bulcock Beach, with street parking and public car parks nearby that fill up fast on weekends, so earlier mornings are easier with a dog. The Bulcock Beach boardwalk is across the road for an on-lead stroll, and the coastal path runs north toward Happy Valley, where the beach allows off-lead dogs in designated hours, typically early morning and late afternoon.
