Campbells Cove Beach Dog Off Leash Area

Campbells Cove is a designated off-leash beach at the northern end of Werribee South, running from the eastern end of Campbells Cove Road to the boundary fence of the RAAF Williams Point Cook base. It is a thin, roughly 200 metre strip of sand, often piled with seaweed and shells, past the town's colourful boat sheds, a quieter alternative to the busier city beaches.

The rules. Off-leash access applies at all times within the designated area. Dogs must be under effective voice and sight control throughout, and must be leashed when entering or exiting the off-leash zone and while in the car park. Owners must not let dogs chase, attack or disturb wildlife, and dogs are not permitted to enter waterways or creeks within the reserve. Pick up after your dog; bags are provided.

What's there. Parking is unsealed, at the end of Campbells Cove Road. Waste bins sit near the car park access point, and the walk in passes the boat sheds, a scenic, photogenic landmark. There is no shade structure or dog wash on site, so bring water on hot days.

Getting there. Drive to the end of Campbells Cove Road, Werribee South, and continue north-east past the boat sheds to reach the sand. Public transport does not reach the cove directly, a car is the only practical option.

The water. Generally shallow and calm, good for wading rather than serious swimming. High tide gives better water access; low tide exposes more sand for running. Seaweed builds up in warm weather and can smell strong, worth knowing before you commit to a long visit.

Nearby with the dogs. Chatterbox Cafe in Werribee and Little Growling Cafe in Tarneit both offer dog-friendly outdoor seating and are within a 10-15 minute drive.

Best visited early morning or evening to avoid weekend crowds, and check the tide if you want your dog in the water rather than just on the sand. Good for dogs that like a quiet, low-key beach over a big open one.
