Saltwater Reserve Fenced Dog Park

Saltwater Reserve Fenced Dog Park is Point Cook's main enclosed off-lead run, on Middleton Drive at the corner of Saltwater Promenade. It is one of the better-equipped dog parks in Melbourne's outer south west, with agility gear, a sandpit, water on tap and lighting for the dark months, and it draws a steady crowd of local regulars.

The dog setup

Inside the roughly 50 by 75 metre fenced enclosure dogs are off lead under standard Wyndham rules: stay with your dog, keep effective control and carry a leash. Entry is via double gates, but latch each one properly rather than trusting the last visitor did. Outside the fence the wider reserve, its sports ovals and the playground are all on-lead territory. There is no separate small-dog zone, so every size shares the one space and nervous dogs need a quiet-time visit instead of the 6pm rush.

Max: no small-dog zone here, so size up the room before you unclip. Weekday mid-morning is the calm window if your dog needs space to warm up.

Worth knowing

The equipment list is unusually good: ramps, weave poles, a table and a V-shaped bridge, plus a sandpit for diggers and communal toys that regulars leave behind. There is a water tap and bowl near the entry, sheltered seating, bins and free waste bags. The listed hours run 8am to 6pm Monday to Saturday with Sundays closed, so plan around that rather than assuming an all-hours park. The field patches up after rain, so expect mud in winter.

Getting there and parking

Set your maps to 26 Middleton Drive, Point Cook. There is a large free car park on site with flat access, and the broader reserve adds a playground, BBQs, picnic spots and public toilets if you are making a family morning of it. Williams Landing station is about 10 to 15 minutes away by car, but you will want a vehicle for the last leg.

Close by with the dogs

Williams Landing Reserve Fenced Dog Park is a second fenced option back towards the station, and The Strand Dog Off Leash Park covers the other end of the suburb. Little Miss Violet is a local dog-friendly cafe for the post-park coffee.
