The short version. The Strand is a newer fenced off-leash park in the Sanctuary Lakes end of Point Cook, built under Wyndham's Dog Off-Leash Plan and opened as a purpose-designed space with a large grassed run and a separate quiet zone for smaller or timid dogs.

The rules. It is an approved 24/7 off-leash park, secured by a 1.2-metre fence with double-gate entries. Clean up after your dog, and keep an eye on shared space etiquette - the quiet zone exists so smaller dogs can avoid the rough-and-tumble, so use it as intended. Bins are provided, but carry your own bags as backup.

What's there. A large grassed area, an agility-equipped activity space, new concrete paths for easy access, owner seating, a drinking fountain, and mulched garden beds with some shade. The separate quiet zone is the standout feature for anyone with a small or nervous dog.

Getting there. The park is on The Strand near Boardwalk Boulevard, Point Cook. Parking is street-level on the surrounding residential streets rather than a dedicated car park, so allow a minute to find a spot at busy times. Most visitors drive or walk in from nearby homes.

When to go. Being new and well-built, it draws a crowd, busiest on weekday mornings and evenings and weekend mornings when locals are out walking. It is parkland rather than beach, so tides do not apply and it works in all weather. Come mid-morning or early afternoon on a weekday if you want it quieter.
