Toorbul On Leash Dog Beach

Toorbul On-Leash Dog Beach is a quiet, scenic stretch of foreshore along the Esplanade in Toorbul, looking out across the passage. The designated dog area runs approximately 300 metres north-west from The Crescent, giving you a compact but genuinely relaxed space for a restrained seaside walk. Crowds are rare here, which suits dogs that find busier off-leash parks overwhelming.

The rules. This is an on-leash beach exercise area, not an off-leash beach. Dogs must be leashed at all times on the sand and kept under effective control. The designated area covers only that roughly 300-metre stretch along the Esplanade. Dogs are not permitted on the dunes or in adjacent vegetated conservation areas. Owners must clean up waste immediately. Rules are enforced by City of Moreton Bay, so follow the on-site signage.

What's there. Street-level parking along the Esplanade is usually easy to come by. Public restrooms sit at both ends of the foreshore area, and there are BBQs and picnic tables along the walkway. Bring your own dog waste bags, as council supplies can be intermittent.

Getting there. From Brisbane, take the Bruce Highway (M1) north and turn off at the Toorbul/Donnybrook exit (Exit 157), then follow signs to Toorbul. The beach is on the Esplanade. Public transport is very limited in this area, so a car is the practical option.

Nearby with the dogs. A short drive south along the Moreton Bay coast gets you to Beachmere Offleash Dog Beach if your dog needs an off-leash run. For a sit-down meal or coffee with your dog nearby, Sips and Treats in Donnybrook and The Black Cat Eatery in Beachmere are both worth a look.

Watch-outs. Tides shape this beach significantly. At high tide the sand narrows considerably or is mostly covered, so timing matters. Stick to the designated foreshore stretch and keep off the dunes and conservation areas behind.

When to go. Aim for low to mid tide, when the sandbank is exposed and there is enough width for a proper walk along the water's edge. A weekday morning low tide will give you the widest, quietest experience.
