Toorbul On Leash Dog Beach

Toorbul keeps things simple: a quiet stretch of Pumicestone Passage foreshore on the Esplanade where dogs are welcome on a lead, with water views over to Bribie Island and almost never a crowd.

The dog setup

This is a designated on-leash beach exercise area, not an off-leash beach. The approved zone runs about 300 metres north west from The Crescent along the Esplanade, and that is where the leashed walking happens.

City of Moreton Bay asks owners to keep dogs under effective control on the sand, to stay out of the dunes and the vegetated conservation areas behind the foreshore, and to pick up immediately. Signage on site spells out the boundaries, and the rules are actively enforced, so leash up before you step off the path.

The vibe

Toorbul is a small bayside village and the foreshore reflects it: picnic tables, BBQs and a wide outlook across the passage rather than surf patrols and kiosks. If your dog finds busy off-leash beaches overwhelming, this restrained shoreline walk is a genuinely calm alternative.

Tides matter here. At high tide the sand narrows sharply or disappears altogether, so time your visit for low to mid tide when the flats are exposed and there is real width along the water's edge. A weekday morning low tide is the best version of this walk.

Getting there and parking

From Brisbane, take the Bruce Highway north and exit at the Toorbul and Donnybrook turnoff, then follow the signs into the village. Street level parking along the Esplanade is usually easy to find, and public toilets sit at both ends of the foreshore area.

Bring your own poo bags. Council supplies along the walkway can be intermittent, and the little general store in town is your fallback for coffee rather than a guarantee.

Make a day of it

If your dog needs an actual off-leash run, the Beachmere Offleash Dog Beach is a short drive south along the bay, with a huge tidal flat at low tide. Clayton Park in Beachmere adds a fenced option to the same trip.
