Woorim Dog Beach Car Park (Bennelong Street)

The Bennelong Street car park is the main access point for the off-leash stretch of Woorim Beach on Bribie Island's surf side. From the path at the end of the street you step straight onto sand where dogs can run free, with the calmer Pumicestone Passage side of the island a short drive away if the swell is up.

Leash status

Under City of Moreton Bay rules, the off-leash area runs south from around Beach Access 19 near Lowry Street, stretching roughly four kilometres of sand and water toward Red Beach. North of that boundary the beach towards the 4WD access point is on-leash, and the patrolled sections near the surf club stay off-limits to dogs, so read the signage at this access point before unclipping. The off-leash privilege covers sand and water only: dunes, vegetation and conservation zones are prohibited at all times. Keep at least 15 metres clear of the children's playground, carry bags, and note that anyone under 16 cannot be in sole charge of a dog on the beach.

Water and terrain

This is an open ocean beach facing Moreton Bay's outer coast, so expect waves and occasional rips rather than flat water. Confident swimmers do well here, while cautious dogs can wade along the shallows. Low tide opens a wide flat run that suits long fetch sessions, and high tide pushes the water up to a narrow strip against the dune line, so check the tide before you set out if your dog needs room.

Getting there and parking

Bennelong Street runs off the Woorim beachfront strip, and parking along it is free with a direct path down to the sand. It fills quickly on weekends and holiday mornings, so arrive early for a close spot. Overflow parking sits a street or two back, and the walk from there adds only a few minutes.

Worth knowing

There are no taps or bag dispensers guaranteed at this access, so bring your own water and waste bags. Even off-leash, your dog must stay under effective control and within sight, which the council enforces along with the dune restrictions. On-leash rules apply on the foreshore areas closer to the Woorim shops, so keep the lead handy for the walk back to the car.

When to go

Early morning is the local favourite, combining cooler sand, an empty car park and the best tide window in summer. School holidays and warm weekend afternoons bring swimmers and 4WD traffic to the northern end, so mornings or weekdays give you the most space.
