Woorim Dog Beach

Woorim Dog Beach is the ocean-side off-leash stretch on the southern end of Woorim Beach on Bribie Island, running from Beach Access 19 at Lowry Street and heading south for roughly four kilometres. It is open around the clock, and at low tide the beach widens right out for a proper run.

Leash status

The City of Moreton Bay manages this as the Woorim Beach (South) Dog Off-Leash Area, with off-leash applying to the wet and dry sand and the water. North of Access 19, near the surf club, dogs need to stay leashed, and signage marks the southern end of the zone.

Dunes and vegetated areas are off-limits at all times, and owners must keep effective voice or visual control while off-leash. Cleanup bags and bins are provided at the main access points, so there is little excuse to leave anything behind.

Water and terrain

This is a surf beach rather than a calm bay, so the water suits strong swimmers more than waders. At high tide the water pushes close to the dune line and narrows the run, while low tide opens the beach up and calms the shallows considerably.

Pepsi: low tide is the best time for a proper run, the beach widens right out and the water calms down. Watch for surf and the odd rip on windier days, especially if your dog is not a strong swimmer.

Getting there and parking

Follow the Bruce Highway and Bribie Island Road onto Woorim Avenue, then North Street towards Lowry Street. Free street parking sits near the end of Lowry Street and by the surf club, and the dedicated Woorim Dog Beach car park on Bennelong Street puts you closest to the sand.

When to go

Weekday mornings and late afternoons are the quietest stretches, and weekends pull a steady local crowd year-round. Check the tide before you set out, because a high-tide visit gives a much shorter beach.

While you're out there

RSL Social has outdoor space with water stations and Mokha Cafe on the main strip is a quick, casual coffee stop, both a few minutes from the sand. If you are staying over, plenty of Woorim holiday houses and the island's caravan parks list as pet-friendly, though it pays to confirm before booking.
