Redcliffe Showgrounds

Redcliffe Showgrounds is a working showground on the Redcliffe peninsula that doubles as a low-cost campground, and it takes dogs on its sites. If you are travelling with a van and a dog and want to be walking distance from the Moreton Bay foreshore, it is one of the simplest bases on the northside of Brisbane.

Dogs at the showgrounds

Dogs are permitted on the camping and caravan sites and must stay on lead for the whole stay. No size or breed limits are published, but confirm the pet policy, any fees and availability for your dates with the caretaker when you book, and be aware the grounds host shows, markets and car boot sales through the year, so check the event calendar for blackout dates before locking in.

Max: book before you arrive and mention the dog on the phone. This is a caretaker-run ground, so the rules you confirm on the phone are the ones that count when you pull in.

The setup

This is RV country rather than a tent park: sites are restricted to caravans, motorhomes and RVs, with no tents, swags or campfires. Powered sites run about $35 a night and unpowered about $30 for two people, with hot showers and clean amenities blocks. Sites are spacious and well shaded, and the adjacent oval gives you a morning walk without even leaving the grounds.

Getting there and out with the dog

The showgrounds sit in Redcliffe proper, a short drive from the Bruce Highway via the Redcliffe peninsula and around 40 minutes from central Brisbane. From the gate you are close to the foreshore path, the jetty and the cafe strip along Redcliffe Parade, most of it dog friendly on the outdoor tables.

While you're out there

For an off-lead swim, Scarborough Dog Beach Off Lead is a few minutes north up the peninsula. Dru Point Fenced Dog Park at Margate covers the secure run, and Bazil and Co in Scarborough is a dog-friendly breakfast stop.
