Bazil&Co. sits on Landsborough Avenue in Scarborough on the Redcliffe peninsula, an Italian-inspired cafe and bakery a few steps from the Moreton Bay foreshore. For dog owners the combination is hard to beat: waterfront alfresco tables, a huge cabinet of cakes and cannoli, and a spot to land after a walk along the esplanade.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome at the alfresco tables out front, on lead. The air-conditioned indoor dining room is off limits other than assistance animals, which is standard under Queensland food safety rules. Staff are generally happy to bring out water on request, and the venue's own pages list dogs as welcome in the outdoor areas, but the esplanade crowd keeps things busy, so bringing your own bowl is the safe play on weekends.

The vibe and the menu

Doors open at 6am every day, closing 2pm Mondays and 2:30pm the rest of the week. The pastry cabinet is the headline: authentic Italian cannoli and fresh cakes that locals rate among the best on the peninsula, backed by all-day breakfast with eggs benedict and hash browns, a premium burger range, loaded Reuben and Chicago bagels, and fresh artisan breads baked in house. Coffee is Segafredo, and the bay views do the rest of the selling.

Getting there and parking

Landsborough Avenue parking runs along the waterfront, and the esplanade path is flat and easy with a dog. The Scarborough off-lead dog beach is close by for a run and a swim, and Drift Coffee Company is another dog-friendly stop on the same strip.
