Yarrawood Estate

Yarrawood Estate is a family-owned vineyard on the Melba Highway just south of Yarra Glen, and the big lawn is the draw for dog owners: order a grazing platter, take a lawn table and let the valley views do the work while the dog settles at your feet.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome in the lawn and outdoor garden areas on a lead and under control; inside the cellar door it is assistance dogs only. When you book, ask for a lawn table so there is room for the dog. Water for dogs is not guaranteed, so pack a bowl.

Good to know. The pours are estate-grown cool-climate wines, with the pinot noir, chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon and a late harvest riesling all getting mentions from visitors. It is a genuinely family-friendly spot, with kids on the lawn most weekends, and there are resident geese on the property.

Getting there. The cellar door is on the Melba Highway between Coldstream and Yarra Glen, about an hour's drive from Melbourne, with on-site parking by the entrance. Open daily 10am to 5pm; confirm the map pin on their website before you set off.

Nearby. Greenstone Vineyards is a few minutes away with a dog-friendly deck and lawn, and The Vallie Store in Yarra Glen covers coffee before or after, with dogs allowed inside.

Weekends draw families, so if your dog prefers calm, go midweek or right on the 10am open. Good for social dogs happy to lie on grass for a long lunch.
