Greenstone Vineyards

Greenstone Vineyards sits high on Glenview Road above Yarra Glen, and it is one of the easier wineries in the valley to visit with a dog: the covered deck and the big open lawn are both dog-friendly, with sweeping views across the Yarra Valley from either.

The dog setup. Dogs are welcome on the lawn and the covered deck on a lead, with owners expected to clean up. Water bowls are usually out, but bring your own as backup. The cellar door building itself is off-limits, and so are the vine rows - the estate keeps dogs out of the vineyard for phylloxera biosecurity and because kangaroos graze through.

Good to know. The tasting list runs across two regions, cool-climate Yarra Valley wines and warmer Heathcote reds including the shiraz, and the cheese platters are the standard order for stretching a tasting into an afternoon. The covered deck means a wet forecast does not sink the plan.

Getting there. 179 Glenview Road, Yarra Glen, roughly an hour's drive from Melbourne. On-site parking, with an overflow car park on the top lawn for busy days.

Nearby. Yarrawood Estate takes dogs on its lawn a short drive away, and The Vallie Store in the township does coffee and allows dogs inside.

Weekends fill the deck fast; midweek or an early afternoon slot gets you a table with room for the dog. Good for calm dogs happy to watch the view rather than work the room.
