Peter Lehmann Wines

Peter Lehmann Wines is one of the Barossa's benchmark cellar doors, set on Para Road in Tanunda on the banks of the Para River. The broad lawns and established gardens are the draw for dog owners: well-behaved dogs are welcome across the outdoor garden seating while you work through shiraz, riesling and the rest of the range.

The dog setup

Dogs stay outside, in the designated garden settings, lawns and outdoor seating areas; the indoor tasting room is off limits. The lawns along the river give a leashed dog genuine space to settle, and staff can usually supply a water bowl, though bringing your own is the safer bet. Book an outdoor table ahead through their reservations page so the garden is waiting rather than hoped for.

Worth knowing

The Weighbridge sharing platter of Barossa produce is the food headline, served on the lawn alongside cheese plates and snacks, with platter service running until mid afternoon. The cellar door opens 10:30am to 4:30pm Monday, Thursday to Sunday, and closes Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Getting there and parking

The cellar door is a short drive from Tanunda's main street, with free gravel parking in front of the cellar door and garden.

Close by with the dogs

Turkey Flat Vineyards sits just up the road with dogs welcome in its courtyard and garden, St Hallett Cellar Door and Winery is another Barossa heavyweight nearby, and Wohlers Cafe covers a dog-friendly breakfast or coffee in town.
