Brothers At War

Brothers At War is a family-run cellar door in the middle of Tanunda's main street, pouring small-batch Barossa reds and riesling alongside cheese and produce platters. It is a genuinely dog-welcoming stop on a Barossa tasting loop, with water put out for canine visitors and a relaxed, chatty room that suits a dog sprawled under the table.

The dog setup

Well-behaved, leashed dogs are welcome at the cellar door, with the verandah and outdoor seating the natural home for them on busy days. Water bowls are available and the team has a reputation for making a fuss of visiting dogs. Keep yours on lead, especially when other dogs are in the room, and book a table ahead for weekends since the space is cosy rather than cavernous.

The vibe

The name comes from two brothers, and the banter is part of the experience: tastings run as heated family debates as much as wine education. Shiraz is the backbone of the range with riesling a local favourite, tastings cost $20 for up to six wines and are redeemable on purchase, and platters cover the food side. Fridays run late to 8pm with dumplings; Mondays are by appointment only.

Getting there and parking

The cellar door is at 58 Murray Street, Tanunda, walkable from anywhere in town. Street parking along Murray Street and the side streets is free, though it fills on weekends when the town gets busy.
