Darling's Food With Passion Cafe opens at 6am on Murray Street in the middle of Tanunda, which makes it the Barossa's first-stop cafe as much as anything: hot coffee and fresh baking before most of the town has stirred, with the footpath tables out front taking dogs.

The dog setup

Dogs join you at the outdoor footpath seating on Murray Street, not inside the cafe. It is prime people-watching position on the main strip, and staff are accommodating. Bring your own water bowl to be safe, and give them a quick word on arrival if the morning is busy.

Worth knowing

The baking is the headline: muffins, croissants, almond croissants, brioche and morning buns, with gluten-free options covered and produce from local Barossa makers. Hours run 6am to 1pm daily, so it is strictly a breakfast-and-lunch proposition; plan the day around it rather than expecting an afternoon seat.

Getting there and parking

The cafe is at 3/56 Murray Street, Tanunda. Free street parking runs along Murray Street and the side streets, and it is central enough to walk from anywhere in town. Weekend mornings get busy with valley traffic.

Close by with the dogs

There is no fenced off-leash park in Tanunda itself; dogs stay on-lead around town reserves. The Nuriootpa Fenced Dog Park is the closest secure run, about ten to fifteen minutes up the road near the Para River. After coffee, Turkey Flat Vineyards is a short walk for a cellar door stop, and Wohlers Cafe is another Tanunda option if Darling's table is full.
