Wohlers Cafe

Wohlers Cafe lives inside the Wohlers homewares and furniture store at 101-103 Murray Street, right on Tanunda's main street in the Barossa. It is a quiet, relaxed spot rather than a busy brunch scene, and because the cafe runs its own outdoor seating, it works as an easy pause on a lead while you work your way along the Murray Street strip with the dog.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome in the outdoor and courtyard seating areas, kept on a lead and settled beside your table. Because the building doubles as a furniture and homewares showroom, the indoor spaces are off limits to pets, so this is an alfresco-only stop. Water provisions vary by day, so it is worth packing a collapsible bowl rather than relying on one being out.

The vibe

The menu leans old-school bakery cafe: scones with jam and cream, Cornish pasties, quiche and salad, cake slices and milkshakes, with Devonshire tea and high tea on offer. Reviewers consistently call out the friendly staff and fair prices, and the coffee is quick and decent. It is the kind of place you stop for an hour, not a morning.

Getting there and parking

Look for the Wohlers store on Murray Street, Tanunda's main drag. Street parking runs the length of the strip and there are rear car parks behind the main-street shops, so you should not have to walk far with the dog. It opens from 9am daily (10am Sundays) and closes mid afternoon, so plan for breakfast or lunch rather than dinner.

Close by with the dogs

The grassy Tanunda Village Green is an easy stroll up the street for a leg stretch on the lead. For another meal stop, Darling's Food With Passion Cafe sits on the same strip, and Rehn Bier Brewery pours locally a short walk away. If you are making a Barossa day of it, Turkey Flat Vineyards welcomes dogs at its cellar door, and Nuriootpa Fenced Dog Park gives the dog a proper off-lead run.
