Garbin Estate Wines is a family-run cellar door in the Swan Valley that has been going since 1956, and it is genuinely one of the more flexible wineries around for dog owners, with pups welcomed both on the grounds and inside the cellar door itself.

The dog setup: Dogs can join you outdoors on the grounds or inside the cellar door, which is unusually accommodating for a working winery. There is no entry fee or pet fee. Leads must stay on at all times on the property. Bring your own travel bowl and treats, though staff will often provide water on request. Keep an eye out for Froy, the resident winery dog, who sometimes roams the grounds.

Known for: Garbin specialises in methode traditionnelle sparkling wine, alongside a solid range of reds, whites and fortifieds. Grazing and cheeseboards can be pre-ordered to go with a tasting.

Getting there: The cellar door is at 209 Toodyay Rd, Middle Swan, about 30 to 35 minutes northeast of the Perth CBD by car. There is a free car park directly outside.

Nearby with the dogs: Ugly Duckling Wines in West Swan has a rustic outdoor dining area that also welcomes dogs. Bailey Brewing Co in Henley Brook has a large dog-friendly verandah and garden, though dogs are only permitted on weekdays there, so check before a weekend visit. Twin Hill Wines in Baskerville allows leashed dogs at its outdoor benches.

Open Tuesday to Sunday, 11am to 4:30pm, closed Mondays. Weekday visits are the easier option if you also want to stop at Bailey Brewing Co on the same trip.
