Swan View Fenced Dog Park

The Swan View dog exercise area at 62 Balfour Road is a fully fenced off-leash park in the Perth Hills suburb of Swan View, run by the Shire of Mundaring on a former maintenance depot site. It is a simple, secure enclosure rather than a sprawling reserve, and it has become a genuine community meeting point for local dog owners, with a coffee van onsite most days.

The dog setup

The space is fully enclosed with a double-gate entry system, open grass and earth ground for running, and water supplied onsite. Seating is basic. The regular On D Run Coffee van sets up onsite six days a week, which says a lot about how reliably people show up. Note there is no separate small-dog run: residents have asked the shire for one, so toy dogs share the space with everyone else.

Worth knowing

Off-leash applies inside the fence only; dogs need to be leashed on the street and surrounding reserves. Under the Dog Act and shire rules, owners remain fully responsible for their dog's behaviour even in an off-leash area, must carry a leash, keep the dog under effective control and never leave it unsupervised. Because there is no small-dog section, owners of smaller dogs should judge the mix at the gate before entering.

Getting there

The park is on Balfour Road, off Swan View Road, with parking alongside the entrance and the area open around the clock. Early mornings are the calm window, while weekday evenings bring the regular crowd; for a low-stress first visit, aim for an early weekday start.

Close by with the dogs

For a coffee-and- errands stop nearby, Love Avenue Cafe in Midland is a short drive away, and the Mundaring hills trails start just up the road for an on-lead bushwalk.
