Tyler's Vineyard

Tyler's Vineyard is a small, family-run cellar door at 301 Padbury Avenue in Millendon, in the Swan Valley wine region north of Perth, and it is about as dog-welcoming as a winery gets. Dogs join the full tasting experience here, including inside the cellar door and on the deck, rather than waiting at the car.

The dog setup

Dogs are welcome indoors and across the rustic outdoor tasting areas, on a leash throughout. The reason for the lead rule is the property's own menagerie: resident chickens and other animals roam the grounds, and a dog with chase instincts will find temptation quickly. Water bowls are usually on hand, though bringing your own removes the doubt on busy afternoons.

Max: the resident animals are part of the charm, but they are livestock, not playmates. Short lead, calm dog, and let the sniffing happen at a respectful distance.

The vibe

This is a personal, small-batch operation where the owners pour and chat themselves, and the century-old Grenache vines are the story of the place, with a limited edition Liqueur Grenache the signature pour. Free personalised photo labels on bottles you buy make it a favourite for gifts. Expect a relaxed, unhurried tasting rather than a polished commercial cellar door.

Getting there and hours

The vineyard sits on Padbury Avenue in Millendon with on-site parking and easy 2WD access off the main Swan Valley tourist drive. Doors open 11am to 4pm Monday, Thursday and Friday, and 11am to 5pm Saturday and Sunday. Tuesday and Wednesday it is closed. Weekends draw the bigger crowds, so a Thursday or Friday visit suits a dog that prefers quiet.

Make a day of it

The Swan Valley handles dog-friendly wine trails well. Windy Creek Estate at Herne Hill welcomes dogs in its garden seating a few minutes away, Ugly Duckling Wines at West Swan is dog-friendly outdoors with water bowls, and Edgecombe Winery rounds out a loop through Henley Brook.
